Are you using Google Keyword Planner?
1.17 billion people use Google Search.
Do you wonder why they don’t find your writing? If you do, you are like I was, until just a few days ago.
I had a conversation with a blogger who has been determined to get traffic. Her efforts have succeeded in large part due to her use of Google Keyword Planner.
Recently my husband was making brisket and Googled a recipe. He explained he thought the Google employees put all those answers on the Internet. He told me he didn’t realize he was reading the work of regular people, regular people like you.
You work hard on your blog posts. You put in hours of time. Potential readers should be able to find you, and not the myriad of other bloggers out there, in other words, your competition. This post will explain how they can find you if you spend just a few seconds looking at Google Keyword Planner before you write.
There are many words to optimize your blog posts so that Google can find you. My posts 7 Ways You Can Increase Your Blog Traffic Using Google and How to Increase Your Blog Traffic Using Google Analytics explain the many ways you can use what Google offers to help you increase your blog traffic. However, instead of using many ways, wouldn’t it be better to use all the ways that Google can help you get blog traffic, especially if those ways are free?
Step 1: Go to https://ads.google.com/home/tools/keyword-planner/
Step 2: Make a free account and log in. If you have a Google account, you can use that username and password to sign in.
Step 3: At the top click Tools. Under Tools choose Keyword Planner.
Step 4: Choose: Search for New Keyword and Ad Group Ideas
Step 5: Type in your niche. For example, I would type in “blogging.”
Step 6: Click Get Ideas. Scroll down under the bars.
Step 7: On the left in blue you will see words and phrases relevant to your topic.
Step 8: Look for two columns, Average Monthly Searches and Competition.
You want the amount of average monthly searches to be high and the competition low. Then, when potential readers do a Google search, they can find you.
The arrows are pointing at the Competition column at Google Keyword Planner. The phrase traffic to your blog has over 1000 searches each month, but, according to Google Keyword Planner, the competition is low. Look at my tags. I have tagged my post in accordance with these findings. The bottom arrow is pointing at free traffic generator. It also only has “low” competition, so I tagged my post with that too.
You will know if this is successful by doing the following. Go into your stats and look at Search Engine Terms. You should find your posts coming up in Google searches as a result of using Google Keyword Planner.
What we did was free, and it took only seconds.
